Reimbursement of expenses for students with disabilities
The Autonomous Province of Bozen/Bolzano provides reimbursement of expenses for students with disabilities. Students with a degree of disability of at least 74%, blindness or deafness can apply. In order to obtain an academic qualification, students can attend universities or other institutions of higher education in Italy or in the German cultural area. Refunds are also granted for stays abroad, if the student is still enrolled at the university of origin.
Application deadlines for the reimbursement of expenses in favour of students with disabilities are:
2 November 2021 for the 2020/2021 winter semester
31 March 2022 for the 2020/2021 summer semester
Eligibility requirements:
Citizenship and residence:
Universities in South Tyrol:
be an EU citizen;
be a non-EU citizen with an unlimited residency permit or a person granted refugee status or a person under subsidiary protection;
be a non-EU citizen with a limited residency permit who has been residing continuously in the Province of Bolzano for at least one year at the date of submission for the application.
Universities outside the province: all persons who have been residing in South Tyrol for at least two years at the date of submission for the application.
Age limits:
Bachelor's degree: the applicant must be under 35 years of age on the date of submission of the application
Master’s degree: the applicant must be under 40 years of age on the date of submission of the application
Additional requirements:
high school diploma or equivalent entrance qualification
the applicant must be enrolled as a regular student at a university or other university institution
the applicant must not have completed another study course of the same level, the qualification must be of a higher level (those who have already completed a Bachelor's degree cannot apply for another Bachelor's degree even if they have not obtained a scholarship for the first course of study)
Duration of the study course:
Reimbursement of expenses can be claimed for the following periods:
for consecutive study courses (Bachelor's + Master's degree): 8 years
for study courses with a legal duration of 6 years: 9 years
if the applicant attends a first level master’s degree between the Bachelor's degree and the Master's degree: 9 years
Study merit:
for the first year of study (1st and 2nd semester): high school diploma or equivalent entrance qualification
for the second year (3rd and 4th semester): 10 CFU
for the third year (5th and 6th semester): 18 CFU
for the fourth year (7th and 8th semester): 32 CFU
for the fifth year (9th and 10th semester): 54 CFU
for each additional year: an additional 18 CFU
- for the last year of study: as an alternative to CFU study merit you can apply with "beginning of the thesis"
What services can be reimbursed?
The respective articles of the regulation describe which services can be reimbursed. The student determines together with the Right to Study Office of the University which services will be used and to what extent.
Assistance and support services (art. 11)
on-site assistance at the place of study in the dorm or
provision of assistance and/or need of a tutor
accompaniment at university
Reimbursement of transport costs (art. 12)
reimbursement of transport costs between the student's residence at the place of study and the university and between the place of study and residence if the student cannot use public transport
Reimbursement of expenses for the purchase of study aids (art. 13)
Reimbursement of expenses for other services that overcome barriers to university education (art. 14)
