Mobility
The most popular means of transportation to get to your place of study is the train. Tickets are quite cheap and for a trip from Bolzano to Bologna you pay about 25 euros in second class.
In addition, there is the possibility to buy the Carta Verde, the State Railways discount card. It offers discounts from 10% to 25% on domestic and international trains. It is dedicated to young people up to 26 years of age and has an annual cost of 40 euros.
To get around in the Province of Bolzano you can use the Südtirol abo+. It costs 150 euros and can be requested by students who have not yet reached the age of 27. It authorises the use of the regional train to Trento, but not the long-distance trains (ICE/EC). To use the abo+ on the Brenner - Innsbruck and San Candido-Lienz routes, it is necessary to activate these additional services for a fee.
Students who are in South Tyrol only during summer-time can buy the Summer abo+. It is valid in the months of June, July, August and September.
Euregio Ticket Students
The Euregio Ticket Students pass is available to students enrolled at a university or equivalent higher educational institution anywhere in the Euregio territory. For a fixed annual fee of 341.50 euros, this personalised electronic ticket offers unlimited and flexible use of public transport in all of South Tyrol, Tyrol and Trentino – all you need to remember is that the rules may vary slightly according to which of the three parts of the cross-border region you are travelling in. More information available here.
An alternative to public transport is carpooling, i.e. the sharing of private cars. You can find or offer a ride on Facebook groups, set up for this purpose, or on certain platforms.
In addition, you can use the services of companies offering bus travel, such as Flixbus.
